The canteen: food provision for students and teachers

The canteen of St. Francis and Clare will serve as an important meeting point for students, as well as the teachers during the lunch break. All of them will be able to buy some freshly made meals there. “At the moment the length of the canteen covers around 20 metres. But we will keep the options open to enlarge it even further in the future,” stated Loice Kashangura. Therefore, the backwall of the building will be made up of removable blocks. For the beginning, the now given size of the canteen will be more than sufficient. “We only have to make sure to use the given space as efficient as possible,” Loice added. But this does not seem to become a problem, as the distribution of the seating options and the food stands had been well-conceptualized beforehand. An intelligent positioning of tables and seats will help to save space effectually.

The provision of food at St. Francis and Clare is important. Especially, as most of the students have to go a long way to reach school. Thus, the offering will ensure that everyone will have the opportunity to get recharged for the day. Also, the staff will benefit from it. Having the option to purchase something nourishing right at their working place, they will not be obliged to bring along home-prepared lunch packets. Additional information: The preparation of the meals at St. Francis and Clare will take place in the integrated kitchen of the canteen building. The closeness of the cooking and serving area will ensure the good quality of the dishes served. Additionally, a storage room besides the kitchen will offer even more space for cooking equipment and/or cooking ingredients.

To sum it up: The canteen building strongly reflects the relevance of a thoughtful and proper construction plan. We will keep you updated as it comes to its ongoing realisation.
